Sailing World Championship Starts off Palma

The regatta will be held over five competition days. The Sailing World Championship in the J/70 class kicks off on Tuesday (September 17) in Mallorca. 96 teams from 25 nations will compete in the regatta in the Bay of Palma. Two races of around 90 minutes each will be held over five days of competition. The first race will start at 11:30 from the sailing club in Palma. The second race is scheduled for the afternoon, depending on weather conditions and the duration of the first race.

The World Championship will begin with a strong northeast wind, which is expected to ease during the competition. The weather forecast also predicts light rain showers.

This World Championship is part of a very busy race calendar that has once again placed the Real Club Náutico de Palma at the center of international sailing. "We are an organization fully committed to our city and our sport," said the club’s president.

The event is chaired by Rafael Gil, president of the RCNP, and Vittorio Di Mauro, president of the international class.

Vittorio Di Mauro commented on behalf of the J/70 Association:

"For the class, 2024 is a special year, as we are celebrating our 10th anniversary, and we are excited to do so in such a special city as Palma and at such a wonderful club, the Real Club Náutico de Palma."

The Sandberg Estates J/70 Worlds 2024 is organized by the Real Club Náutico de Palma and the International J/70 Association and is sponsored by Sandberg Estates in institutional collaboration with the Palma City Hall, the Spanish Navy, the Balearic Port Authority, the Spanish Royal Sailing Federation, and the Balearic Sailing Federation.
