Record attempt 2025
Lennart Burke and Melwin Fink have a big goal for 2025: they want to sail around Denmark and set a new record in the process. Well-known on the sailing scene, they want to prove their skills and set new standards in ocean sailing at the same time. Their plan: to complete the 760 nautical mile route faster than the previous record of 70 hours, 24 minutes and 21 seconds.
The record attempt was announced at boot Düsseldorf 2025 and caused great excitement in the sailing world. They set off from Esbjerg on 4 February 2025, determined to make history. The route was to take them through challenging waters - past the North Sea coast and through the Kattegat and Skagerrak. This passage is particularly demanding, as strong currents and changing winds make for difficult conditions.
In order to break the record, they relied on their "Task Engineering", a high-speed boat equipped with state-of-the-art navigation technology. Burke and Fink had trained hard for months to be physically and mentally prepared for the extreme conditions. They waited patiently for the right weather window and were convinced that 4 February was the perfect day for their launch.
But immediately after setting off, they were surprised by the reality of the rough North Sea. The weather deteriorated faster and more violently than predicted. Even before they could officially cross the start line, they had to abandon the attempt. Strong winds and high waves made it impossible to continue safely.
The sudden cancellation came unexpectedly and was a major setback for the team. The disappointment was great, but safety came first. Burke and Fink had no choice but to turn back to avoid taking any unnecessary risks.
They had planned intensively and prepared everything carefully, but they were no match for the forces of nature . Despite their failure, they remained determined and fierce. On the same day, they announced that they would try again as soon as the weather co-operated.
Their aim is not only to break the record, but also to inspire other sailors and awaken enthusiasm for ocean sports. Lennart Burke and Melwin Fink remain optimistic and want to show that defeats are part of the sport.
The record attempt has not yet come to an end, because Burke and Fink are not giving up. Their courage and determination impress the sailing community. The question remains: will they break the record on their next attempt and make history?
Until then, all that remains is to wait and see - and hope that the weather will be kinder to them next time.
And if you fancy immersing yourself in the world of sailing: Don’t worry, you don’t have to sail round Denmark! A few laps of the nearest lake will do to get you started.
