Back-to-Back Boat Shows in October Keep Turkey’s Yachting Sector Buzzing
Turkey's yachting sector experienced an intensely busy period in October, marked by two consecutive in-water boat shows held first in Bodrum and subsequently in Istanbul. The second edition of the Bodrum Boat Show took place from October 14–18, followed closely by the Bosphorus Boat Show at Ataköy Marina in Istanbul from October 18–26. Hosting these two major events back-to-back significantly impacted the industry agenda, sparking widespread debate over event scheduling and regional strategies.
Industry Debate: Location and Calendar Dilemma
While some industry groups argue that Turkey's calendar should be structured around one in-water show (in Bodrum) and one land-based event (such as an indoor February show in Istanbul), stakeholders remain divided over the unique strengths of both hubs:
Istanbul stands out with its massive commercial capacity, advanced logistical infrastructure, robust transport links, and superior accommodation advantages.
Bodrum shines as the traditional birthplace of classic wooden gulets, a premier luxury holiday destination, and a thriving yacht-chartering center.
Although this overlapping calendar has left parts of the sector undecided, it is widely believed that the ecosystem will naturally find its equilibrium over time.

Bodrum Boat Show Highlights
One of the most striking aspects of the event was the prominent participation of leading Bodrum-based companies.
Another major highlight was the robust representation of pre-owned yachts. The Yacht Broker Association underscored the importance of this segment by showcasing second-hand vessels on its own exclusive pontoon at the fair.
Alongside local industry leaders, a strong selection of international brands was also featured at the show.

Bosphorus Boat Show Highlights
Held at Ataköy Marina in Istanbul and organized entirely by YATED (Yacht and Boat Industry Association), the event featured notable revisions to its layout and walking paths, earning high praise and full approval from both participants and visitors.
The show placed a strong emphasis on maritime culture through DAKSAR search and rescue demonstrations, e-foil shows, and sailing training sessions.
The exhibition brought together a vast array of leading local and international brands.
Industry Challenges: YATED Press Conference
During its press conference at the event, YATED highlighted the critical challenges currently facing Turkey’s yachting sector. Heavy tax and VAT burdens continue to push boat owners toward foreign flags, while a severe shortage of marinas and mooring spaces limits capacity. Additionally, rising production costs driven by exchange rate fluctuations have slowed down new construction projects. To protect local builders and maintain strong export figures, the association urgently called for robust government support and incentives for domestic yacht manufacturers.
