Video Game Tycoon Gabe Newell Buys Oceanco

Oceanco introduced this exciting news with the headline 'New Chapter – Gabe Newell,' emphasizing a renewed vision for the shipyard as 'Human-first. Ocean-minded. Future-focused.'"

Gabe Newell, known for developing iconic titles like Half-Life and for pioneering digital game distribution with Steam, reportedly has a deep personal connection to the sea. According to Oceanco, his interest in the shipyard is driven by respect for maritime craftsmanship and a belief that yachting offers a powerful way to reconnect with the ocean, with oneself, and with what truly matters.

Gabe Newell’s acquisition of Oceanco isn’t his first step into the world of superyachts. He already owns three impressive vessels. In 2023, he purchased an Oceanco-built yacht, which he renamed Draak. His fleet also includes the 78-metre (258 ft) Rocinante, built by Lürssen, and the 67-metre (220 ft) Dapple from Damen.
