Suez Canal Increases Yacht Transit Surcharge to 26%
The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) has increased the transit surcharge for yachts from 14% to 26% of normal transit dues.
The revised rate took effect on July 15, 2026, under SCA Periodical 25/2026. It applies to both northbound and southbound transits for all vessels classified as "special floating units," which includes yachts and pleasure craft.
Key Details:
Base Tariff: The underlying transit tariff for yachts remains unchanged, having last been revised in 2024.
Cost Impact: The total cost of transit continues to depend on the individual yacht's tonnage.
Duration: The SCA stated that the surcharge increase is temporary and subject to market conditions.
The adjustment comes amid reduced commercial traffic in the region, as many vessels continue to bypass the Red Sea due to security concerns. The Suez Canal remains a primary route for yachts repositioning between the Mediterranean, the Red Sea, the Arabian Gulf, and Southeast Asia.
