Chalenges of Turkish Superyacht Builders

Turkish superyacht builders face challenges in redefining their image from a focus on cost-effective production.

At a Bosphorus Boat Show summit organized by YATED, industry leaders highlighted Turkey's strong position in the superyacht sector. Despite ranking 4th globally in gross tonnage and 3rd in project numbers, the consensus emphasized the need to shift perception towards high-quality, timely, and competitively priced construction.

Turkey's superyacht industry possesses strengths like extensive experience, superior craftsmanship, flexible working hours, adherence to international standards, cost-effectiveness, a strong sub-industry, and a strategic geographic location. However, challenges have been identified. To overcome them, the industry must:

Expand Technical Workforce: There is a pressing need to grow the workforce in technical areas of the industry's building processes.

Address High Rents: Rising rents in yacht production hubs, particularly in Ankara and Istanbul, contribute to increased overall expenses.

Enhance Sub-Industry Capabilities: Advancements in the sub-industry are necessary for better performance.

Adopt Branding Strategies: Effective branding strategies can help reshape the industry's image.

Integrate Engineering Expertise: Incorporating engineering expertise into yacht design is crucial for cost-efficient and eco-friendly solutions.

Improve Refit Project Structures: The industry needs to enhance structures to accommodate both new constructions and refits simultaneously, as the current limitations hinder refit projects.
