Kos Meinstra Zeeschouw from 1972What type of boat is this Zeeschouw? This Kos Meinstra Zeeschouw is a steel sailing boat from 1972, measuring 9 metres in length, 3.20 metres in beam and with a draft of approximately 60 centimetres. Her air draft is around 10 metres. Inside, she offers approximately 1.90 metres of headroom, making the living space suitable for taller people as well.
In recent years, the boat has been used as a family boat for holidays, weekends and day trips. She was mainly sailed on the IJsselmeer, the Randmeren, inland waterways, lakes, ponds and rivers. The current owners purchased her in 2012. Unfortunately, health problems now make sailing impossible for them. The boat is therefore being offered through BoatAuction to a new owner who can once again use her for relaxing cruises and stays on board.
Kos Meinstra Zeeschouw now in the online auction. Everyone can place a bid until 16 November 2026.What is the layout on board? This Zeeschouw has four fixed berths. Inside, there is a dining area, mattresses, a refrigerator and a cooker. The water supply consists of a 100-litre water tank. The toilet is operated manually and connected to a 20-litre holding tank. The toilet discharge therefore does not flow directly into the open water.
The accommodation is practically arranged for a family or a smaller group. The available space is suitable for weekends and longer holidays, although the layout and age of the boat should be taken into account. The kitchen inventory on board is also included in the sale. There is no heating, making use during cooler periods less comfortable.
What type of propulsion does she have? The boat is equipped with a WaterWorld electric inboard motor with an output of 11 kW, specified as 20 hp. The motor is operational and dates from 2022. It is powered by six Ecobat batteries, type EDC6-450 (6V, 450 Ah), dating from 2021. The electrical installation includes a battery charger, inverter, voltmeter and shore-power connection. The battery charger and electric motor controls can be monitored via an app.
The stated cruising speed is approximately 7 kilometres per hour. The maximum speed is around 12 kilometres per hour. The electric propulsion provides less engine noise while sailing and no diesel-engine exhaust fumes. You can move her quietly under power, but also sail her. This combination makes her suitable for enthusiasts who want to sail both under power and under sail.
What is her sailing equipment like? The Kos Meinstra Zeeschouw has one wooden mast and several sails. On board are a genoa, mainsail, jib and storm jib. In addition, two mainsails are available. The sails are in reasonable condition. A viewing is important if you want to assess the condition of the fabric, seams, fittings and running rigging yourself.
Steering is from the outside using a tiller. She has a single rudder. One anchor is included for anchoring. The chain is placed around the bollard by hand. A cockpit or deck cover is part of the exterior equipment. A dinghy and trailer are not included.
What is the technical and cosmetic condition? The general condition of the boat is described as reasonable. She was last taken out of the water for maintenance in 2025 and received a new layer of antifouling in the same year. Rust formation is visible in some places. The steel hull has not been inspected for corrosion, and no plate-thickness measurements have been carried out. According to the owner, there are no known areas where the steel has been affected or is in poor condition. Nevertheless, it is advisable to carefully inspect the hull, visible rust formation and the rest of the steel construction during the viewing day.
The information regarding known defects does not mention any additional points. Even so, it is advisable to take your time viewing the boat during the viewing day and to assess the installed systems, batteries, sails, motor controls and interior components yourself. The photographs and this description provide an initial impression, but cannot replace a physical inspection.

The four fixed berths provide space for a family or two couples who are happy to stay aboard compactly.
Anyone looking to buy a boat for relaxing cruises may want to include this Zeeschouw when comparing her with other classic steel cabin sailing boats. She may also be a suitable option for someone looking to buy a second-hand boat and who values an electric motor.
