Warren Luhrs founded Hunter Marine Corporation in 1972. The company's first offering was the Hunter 25, designed by Bob Seidelmann, followed by a series of cruisers designed by John E. Cherubini. As the company grew, an in-house team became responsible for all sailboat designs, including the Legend 37, which was built from 1986 to 1988. The Legend 37 was built with a solid fiberglass hull a balsa-cored deck and molded interior liners that incorporated structural components. A beefy transverse stiffener divides the main-saloon sole, and stringers run longitudinally on each side of the keel in the boat's midsection.

Hunter Legend 37 is known for being a fast and spacious cruiser that can comfortably accommodate a crew of four to six. When asked what he liked most about the boat, the owner said it's very fast and agile.

In the forward cabin, there's a generous V-berth, a hanging locker, and a convenient vanity with sink. Immediately aft of it is the main saloon, portside you will find a sofa and on the starboard side, there is seating separated by a multi-level console. Next to this seating area is the location of the navigation station with attached swivel stool.

There is a full galley with a 2 burner stove, 12V refrigerator, microwave, and a double sink. The galley also has an abundance of storage.

The head compartment is behind the navigation station and is accessible from the main cabin and owner's stateroom, is equipped with a flushing toilet, standing/sit down shower, and sink. The storage space is generous.

The owner's stateroom can be accessed from the galley or the head compartment and is equipped with a pedestal bed which doesn't currently have a mattress but would accommodate a queen, and his-and-hers hanging locker/bureaus.

For auxiliary power, the Legend 37 has a 35-horsepower Yanmar 3HM35F diesel coupled with a folding prop. The engine access is easy and there are opening hatches in front under the companionway, on both sides and aft through a panel in the master stateroom.
