The Pietro Micca is the oldest Italian mercantile ship to triple steam expansion and is in a separate class for its state of conservation and operational performance, having been engaged in normal port activities on equal tugs until 1993. Built From Rennoldson & Son, in Southshields, Newcastle (GB) in 1905, this sea steam tug was recorded in the Schooner Class of the coastal sector of Naples, in whose waters should have spent most of his days. The triple expansion piston engine is the first type of steam engine. It consists of a positive displacement engine capable of transforming the thermal energy produced in boilers into mechanical energy. The storage capacity of the fuel in the main, auxiliary and reserve tanks, amounts to 40 tons, while two other large tanks contain thirty tons of water for use of boilers. To recharge the boat batteries, in addition to the steam generator, photovoltaic solar panels (1.3kw / day) were installed, thus allowing the ship to take advantage of a modern technology without affecting its appearance of vintage tugboat and its traditional respect Environment.
